It's been months since dance duo Blue Journey made it into the America's Got Talent competition.
We joined John Kivlighan in Kingsport as he replayed the moment the judges voted the pair onto the show. He told us their first dance is his favorite and that he has a vested interest in how they perform. One of the dancers, Rachel Kivlighan, is his granddaughter.
“Sitting here watching what she's doing and I think how in the world does she do that,” he said.
John and his wife Della watch Rachel every week, enjoying the success she's worked for since she was three years old.
“Her mother Caroline said sometimes she'd hear, in the middle of the night, her beating the floor with her feet,” said John.
Rachel is now doing that on one of the biggest stages in the world with a partner she met only four days before the competition. On Wednesday night, the pair become one of 12 finalists.
“I wanted to text her so badly today to tell her we're hoping and praying for her but I didn't want to break her train of thought,” said John.
He watched from his living room as Blue Journey moved one step closer to winning the million dollar prize.
John said the money isn’t what motivates Rachel, it’s her art. For he and his wife, it’s a blessing to see her express that on the America’s Got Talent stage.
America’s Got Talent airs on Tuesdays at 8:00 p.m. and on Wednesdays at 9:00 p.m. on NBC.
