KINGSPORT, Tenn. -

Students at Jackson Elementary School were able to be a part of history Friday while the City of Kingsport planted two new trees at the school for Arbor Day.

Kingsport Mayor Dennis Phillips issued a proclamation declaring Friday Kingsport's 28th Arbor Day during a noon celebration.

Students helped plant the tree and hear about the importance of trees.

Two trees were also accepted in the notable tree program where each year the city recognizes special trees in the city nominated by citizens.

Dan Wernick with Domtar Paper tells us it's a good day to just appreciate trees, "You look around and we just have trees everywhere and we can't just take them for granted we need to plant more trees and recognize what they give us."

All of the students received a packet of seeds to take home with them so they can home and plant their own trees.
