The federal government says it will sue the Tarheel State over its new voter law.

The Justice Department says it will sue North Carolina for, what it calls, alleged racial discrimination in a new state law that scales back the period for early voting and imposes strict voter ID requirements.

U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder says the Justice Department will not allow the Supreme Court's recent ruling to strike down a key provision of the Voting Rights Act to be interpreted as an "open season" for states to suppress voting rights.
