Johnson City ministry hoping for Christmas miracle
More than 100 children could be without Christmas presents this year, but a Johnson City ministry is working around the clock to make sure that doesn't happen.
Good Samaritan Ministries director Sarah Wells hopes someone will listen to their plea for a Christmas miracle. "I'm afraid we do need one right now. We have three-and-a-half pages of waiting lists of kids that really are still needing to be put on that list," said Wells. "They haven't even made it to the list yet. I can't do that right now. It's going to take a miracle. My granddaughter looked at me the other day and said, 'Nanny, it will take a miracle.' And it will."
They also need food, and lots of it. "We still have 135 boxes to make," said Wells.
Good Samaritan also needs presents for 135 kids to go along with Christmas dinner. "When they do go back to school and the questions are asked by all the other children, 'What did you get for Christmas?' We want every child to be able to have an answer of joy of what they received" Wells said.
For Wells, it is not just about giving a gift. She wants to boost spirits too, so Good Samaritan tries to provide personal care items as well. "Things that make them feel good about who they are. That's very special," Wells said.
Wells and others are working very hard to give a little Christmas magic to children like Morgan Hensley. Her mom, Rachael Campbell, said Morgan now has presents under the tree thanks to the efforts of Good Samaritan. "She's about to be four years old, so she's aware of Santa and Christmastime and people getting presents. It would have been really rough if they had not helped out," said Campbell.
"We'd like to provide Christmas for all these children so they know without a doubt they aren't left out," said Wells.
Good Samaritan Ministries also still needs volunteers to help wrap and deliver gifts as well as the food before Christmas.
