The Johnson City Police Department just got a new tool in their belt to help fight crime.
It's an $800,000 grant and is going toward improving two areas in the city that police say have the highest crime rates -- the downtown section and an area off Lamont Street.
The grant will help with revitalization, fighting crime and helping rehabilitate former criminals. "A lot of resources are spent dealing with the same people over and over, so we're trying to break that cycle," says Major Karl Turner with the Johnson City Police Department.
The grant lasts three years.
