A long-standing dispute between the property owners of U-Haul in downtown Johnson City and the city has ended with both sides coming to a mutual agreement.
U-haul had contended the city wanted its property for financial gain, instead of being a part of a flood relief project. The city denied that, and a judge dismissed the allegations.
Now the two sides have reached a deal where U-Haul has ten months to find a new location; the city plans to take the property next April.
Erik Herrin, an attorney representing the city, tells us the city is continuing to work with the property owners to ensure their business remains in the city, and will offer more time if needed.
