KINGSPORT, Tenn. -

Hundreds of swimmers from all over the country came to the Kingsport Aquatic Center Saturday  for the Polar Bear Swim Meet.

More than 250 swimmers from our area, as well as other states like North Carolina and Ohio, competed in the meet. The swimmers competed in the HMG competition pool, which we are told is the only Olympic-sized pool in the area.

The Kingsport Aquatic Center Director, Kari Matheney, tells us events like this are a great way to showcase the aquatic center and the region. "To have these types of competitions will bring in people from out of the area, which also has indirect benefits to the Kingsport area and the Tri-Cities area in general," she said.

We are told many of the out-of-state swimmers are also staying in hotels around the area.
