Holiday workers at Amazon center in Virginia clog roads
The holiday season is creating traffic headaches around Amazon's fulfillment center in Chester.
The company has hired several thousand extra workers to sort and ship presents during the holiday rush. That means several thousand extra vehicles on roads in the area each day.
Chesterfield County assistant director of economic development Garrett Hart said that the problem is due to shift changes at the center. He says nearly 4,000 people leave and arrive in a 45-minute period.
An Amazon spokeswoman tells the newspaper that shifts have been staggered to ease the traffic issues.
The company also has paid Chesterfield County more than $55,000 for five off-duty police officers to direct traffic at the center.
