Hearing set on motions in ex-mansion chef's case
The next act in the political drama surrounding a former Virginia Executive Mansion chef charged with embezzlement is set to play out in a Richmond courtroom.
Circuit Judge Margaret Spencer will hear arguments Thursday on Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli's request to withdraw as prosecutor in Todd Schneider's case. She also will consider Schneider's motion to dismiss the four charges.
Schneider is demanding the state provide information about the relationship between McDonnell and wealthy Virginia businessman Jonnie Williams, who also has given thousands of dollars in gifts to Cuccinelli. Schneider also says in court papers that he gave investigators evidence a year ago of alleged wrongdoing by McDonnell and his family.
Cuccinelli says Schneider's attempt to implicate McDonnell requires him to withdraw because the governor is his office's chief client.
