This week, law enforcement across the country is paying tribute to fallen officers.

Several memorials have been held around the region as part of national police week.

Wednesday morning in Hawkins County, the sheriff's department held its first ever ceremony honoring fallen officers.

We learned three officers have died on the line of duty; the most recent being the late Deputy Sheriff Gerald Gibson, who was killed in 2000.

"It's very emotional. A lot of my officers were here when Officer Gibson died. He was under my command at that time, and it's stuff you never forget. That's one of my goals as long as I'm sheriff, I want my people to go home safe at night," said Hawkins County Sheriff Ronnie Lawson.

Several family members of fallen deputies were on hand for Wednesday's service.
