On Martin Luther King, Junior Day, the Hawkins County community is remembering the civil rights leader with a march from the Hawkins County Courthouse in Rogersville to Russell Chapel AME Zion Church on Hasson Street.

The 11th annual MLK unity service parade continued with a reception.

Seargent First Class Roy Spears brought his family to this service for a purpose. “I wanted to teach my godchildren, who I have custody of, living history and show them what MLK Day is all about, which is unity.  It's not just about skin color white black or anything but teaching them something the history books has just kind of taken away."

Reverend Doctor James Snapp started The Greater Hawkins Ministerial Alliance's unity service in 2003 to bring the community together.
