Haslam speaks about education in Tennessee
Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam says Tennessee is making great strides in education.
Governor Haslam, speaking to a group of students and teachers in Mount Juliet, says Tennessee is the number one state for education growth in 2013 on the National Assessment for Education Progress, up 22 percent over 2012.
The NAEP, sometimes called the 'nation's report card', assesses fourth and eight grade students in math and reading. The governor says Tennessee has done something in this testing cycle that has never been done before. "In the entire 10-year period, no state ever has shown the growth Tennessee has made this year," Haslam said.
Governor Haslam will be in Blountville to talk education on Friday.
