Nearly 100-people who claim a Bristol, Tennessee dentist took their money without providing agreed upon service, will not get their day in criminal court.
Many patients filed complaints back in November against Quality Dentures and dentist Dr.Hardev Patel. The patients claim they paid for dental work and received nothing because Dr. Patel, left town.
The Sullivan County Grand Jury took the case, but District Attorney General Barry Staubus told News 5 that after reviewing the evidence available, including 100 claims against Quality Dentures, the Grand Jury decided there was not enough to conclude Dr. Patel committed any criminal acts.
Staubus says he's turned the evidence over to the Board of Dentistry and urged the Board of Professional Responsibility to revoke Dr. Patel's license.
Patel's former patients have the option of pursuing claims in civil court. However, Staubus says Dr. Patel's current whereabouts are unknown, making civil claims challenging.
