It's almost like a holiday in the Tri-Cities.
Tractor trailers arrived in Kingsport on Saturday carrying 120,000 boxes of the treats. We're told this delivery is only part of the 1.3 million boxes that were pre-ordered from troops in the East Tennessee, Southwest Virginia, and North Georgia region.
With cookies priced at $4 per box, that is over $5.2 million in revenue. Jessi Bernardini, product sales coordinator for the Girl Scouts, says selling cookies is more than about sharing the sugary sweets. Cookie sales satisfy five skills for the scouts including goal-setting, decision-making, money management, people skills, and business ethics.
Bernardini say, "They're getting out there. They're meeting people. They're learning how to talk to girls and adults. They're doing a really good job."
We're told the most popular cookie in the Tri-Cities are Samoas, which are caramel and toasted coconut flavored cookies.
The Girl Scouts will be set up at booths around the Tri-Cities beginning Friday, Feb. 28 to continue selling the cookies.
