Friend reflects on longtime commissioner's legacy
After the passing longtime Sullivan County commissioners Wayne McConnell, friends remembered his lasting legacy.
Commissioner McConnell served more than a quarter-of-a-century in Sullivan County's commissioner chambers.
Fellow commissioner Dennis Houser told News 5 McConnell was a strong advocate for county employees and the sheriff's department, where he used to work.
Houser said the late commissioner will be missed for his sticking to his belief in what was right. "Wayne was one of these guys that if he thought something wasn't being done correctly, he would call your hand regardless. He would always stand up for what he believed in, in spite of opposition," said Houser.
According to Oak Hill Funeral Home in Kingsport, visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7, 2013 in the J. Wayne Hamilton Memorial Chapel of Oak Hill Funeral Home.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday in Oak Hill Memorial Park.
