JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. -

A former Jonesborough police officer will spend the next year and a half behind bars.

Freddie Matthew Sergent, age 31, has been sentenced to serve federal time, for steroid trafficking.

Sergent pleaded guilty to distributing prescription anabolic steroids from 2009 until April 2012.

For most of that time, he was an officer with the Jonesborough police force, resigning in January 2012.

Sergent admitting to getting the raw steroid powders from China, packaging them and selling them to customers in eastern Tennessee, and across the country.
