BRISTOL, Va. -

A Bristol, Virginia doctor is surrendering his license to the Board of Medicine after admitting he had sex with a patient.

The board already suspended former doctor Jeffrey Ginther's license back in February, but the doctor decided go ahead and surrender his license last Wednesday.

According to the consent order from the Board of Medicine, Ginther engaged in a romantic, sexual relationship with a patient two years ago. Ginther was ound guilty in Bristol general district court last year on a stalking charge involving his former patient and was sentenced to a year in jail.

The court issued five protective orders against Ginther, forbidding him to have any contact with his former patient.

Ginther is not allowed to petition the board for reinstatement of his license at any future date.
