Craig Ford, candidate for Washington County Sheriff, conceded the May 6 election Tuesday after the results were officially certified by the Election Commission.
In a phone call, Craig Ford congratulated Sheriff Graybeal and family on their victory.
Ford delayed announcing his decision in order to personally inform his closest friends and supporters. "I couldn’t have asked for a harder-working, more committed team of volunteers," exclaimed Ford. "I am so proud of all we accomplished in this campaign. Important issues were at stake, and, despite the outcome, important changes have been made. I heartily applaud my opponent’s decision to reinstate the Gideons and rehire a chaplain at the jail," stated Ford.
A slim margin of only 12 votes separated the two contenders with most precincts evenly divided. Craig Ford will continue his position as Director of Public Safety for the town of Jonesborough, overseeing police, fire, and communications.
