ETSU named military-friendly school
East Tennessee State University has been named to the 2014 Military Friendly Schools list published by Victory Media, a global military media firm headquartered in Pittsburgh.
The list honors the top 20 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools in the country that, according to Victory Media, are "doing the most to embrace America's military service members, veterans and spouses as students and [to] ensure their success on campus."
ETSU recently launched the Buc Hero Program, the largest veteran enrollment initiative in the school’s history.
The program provides opportunities for veterans and dependents to attend ETSU and use the Buc Hero or Yellow Ribbon scholarships to have out-of-state fees reduced or waived.
Earlier this year, the university opened a veterans' lounge on campus for student veterans.
"Inclusion on the 2014 list of Military Friendly Schools shows ETSU's commitment to providing a supportive environment for military students," said Sean Collins, vice president at Victory Media and a nine-year Navy veteran. "The need for education is growing and our mission is to provide the military community with transparent, world-class resources to assist in their search for schools."
ETSU has also been recognized as a "Military Friendly School" by GI Jobs magazine for five consecutive years.
