Elizabethton Police charged two people in the death of an infant.

Officers said they responded to the couple’s home on Bluefield Avenue on November 20, 2012, where they found an unresponsive 8-month-old child.

The infant later died, prompting police to find out how the baby died.

During an investigation by Elizabethton Police and the Department of Children Services, investigators determined Jeffrey McLaughlin, 26, and Stephanie Bowman, 22, used meth. An autopsy on the infant noted the child was exposed to meth.

A grand jury charged McLaughlin and Bowman with Attempted Aggravated Child Abuse.

They were taken to the Carter County Jail on January 17.  They're scheduled to face a judge on  March 24.
