'Duck Dynasty' event at Viking Hall cancelled
Organizers: "Event would send mixed messages" to youth in alcohol program
Duck Dynasty star Willie Robertson's appearance in Bristol has been cancelled after a prior delay.
Organizers of the April 12 event announced a cancellation around 5 p.m. Monday.
Organizers say a recent partnership between Duck Dynasty and Duck Commander Wines will send the wrong message to young people who were attending the event.
"Our greatest responsibility is to the young people we serve. Therefore, we feel that in light of the recent news that the stars of the show "Duck Dynasty" are partnering with Trinchero Family Estates to launch Duck Commander Wines, to continue with this event would send mixed messages to the young people who go through our Adolescent Drug and Alcohol program," said Derek Bell, director of development for Family Ministries.

"It was announced today that the April 12 event with "Duck Dynasty" star and Duck Commander CEO Willie Robertson at Viking Hall has been cancelled. This show was originally scheduled for October 19, 2013, and had been rescheduled for Saturday, April 12, 2014, due to a scheduling conflict.
This event was part of a fundraiser to benefit Family Ministries’ “School Expansion Project”. According to Derek Bell, Director of Development for Family Ministries, "Our greatest responsibility is to the young people we serve. Therefore, we feel that in light of the recent news that the stars of the show "Duck Dynasty" are partnering with Trinchero Family Estates to launch Duck Commander Wines, to continue with this event would send mixed messages to the young people who go through our Adolescent Drug and Alcohol program." Bell goes on to say, "Our message must be consistent. The lives of those children may well hang in the balance. We certainly apologize to the people who have already purchased tickets, and pray they understand our position."
Family Ministries is a Christian non-profit organization that takes care of at-risk children. As part of that care, approximately half of the children they serve go through its Adolescent Drug and Alcohol Program.
Tickets sold will be refunded by Viking Hall Civic Center and at e-tix.com. Some have already expressed their desired to continue their support through donations to this "School Expansion Project". To donate please call or email through the contact info below.

Proceeds from the event would have benefited Family Ministries’ planned 10,000-square-foot expansion to provide updated classroom space and counseling facilities for the children that Family Ministries serve. The school expansion project broke ground in October and is scheduled with an estimated completion date of summer 2014.
