HAWKINS COUNTY, Tenn. -

Dozens of people in Hawkins County are facing charges Tuesday after 'Operation Be Mine'.

It was a part of a drug roundup that came after a grand jury handed down 34 indictments. We rode along with deputies to check out the drug problem in our area.

Valentine's Day is just around the corner, but some people in Hawkins County may be spending it in jail after Sheriff Ronnie Lawson's Operation Be Mine.

Joseph Bear lives in Hawkins County. He tells us he's happy the sheriff is taking steps to cut down on drug use. "We do the best that we can as parents to try to teach [our children] from right and wrong, but when they have that kind of influence around wherever they are, it definitely makes it harder," he told us.

Sheriff Lawson tells us the operation stems from a year-long investigation by the county's Drug Task Force, which includes selling to undercover officers. "We got some of the people on the same street," Sheriff Lawson said. "We got some people in the same families, just selling and possessing narcotics."

Lawson tells us all together 34 people were indicted on various drug charges. "We had some meth, we had some marijuana, painkillers; it's just an array of different things," he said.

Lawson tells us while deputies served warrants, they also confiscated several guns, ammo, and marijuana. "I got a lot of good officers out here every day trying to find the drugs. I figure every bit we get off the streets keeps it out of the homes and schools," he said.

People like Joseph Bear tell us they support the sheriff's efforts 100 percent. "They've done a lot better of trying to make it a more prominent issue and taking care of it a lot more," he said.

Officers tell us 29 of the 34 wanted suspects have been arrested. Click here to view mug shots.
