Downtown Kingsport businesses receive support after flood
The Downtown Kingsport Association received 37 applications for funding to offset expenses and losses caused by the devastating floods that hit the community in July.
The fund requests that the committee reviewed totaled to approximately $333,000 and varied in type of damages and costs caused by the disaster.
In the process of reviewing, the committee divided these costs into three categories: flood clean-up expense, inventory loss and restoration cost.
The priority in awarding funds was to aid in clean-up expenses.
While the flood relief funding was not able to completely cover the $333,000 in total relief requests, all 37 applicants will receive funding.
The checks were to distributed the merchants Tuesday.
More than $61,000 was given to the businesses in downtown.
