BRISTOL, Va. (AP) - An effort to preserve a historic house in Washington County is getting a boost from two donations.
The Bristol Historical Association has been renovating the Robert Preston house along Lee Highway.
According to, association president Tim Buchanan, the Mark B. Trammell Foundation's directors voted recently to donate the land between the house and the highway to the association. The foundation also sold the acreage upon which the house sits to the foundation.
The Mary Fisher Landrum Charitable Trust recently gave the foundation money to match a $40,000 grant from the Cabell Foundation.
Buchanan says the association now has $80,000 to use toward renovating the house's interior.
Preston was an early surveyor in Washington County. The house was built in the early 1800s.
