BIG STONE GAP, Va. -

Big Stone Gap, Virginia firefighters saved the life of a family pet.

The call came in early Monday morning to Carter Street. 

Big Stone Gap fire chief Billy Chandler tells us firefighters at the scene worked together to get the dog breathing again after they saved it from the fire.

Chandler says the dog was sent to the vet with animal control.  He says all the residents made it out of the home fine. 

The home was a total loss due to smoke and heat damage.
