An Oregon dog who used to be obese now has a new shot at life.
Obie, the formerly fat dachshund, came into the spotlight last year and has been on a weight-loss journey every since. He lost 40 pounds over the course of eight months, which has caused loose skin to hang off his body. Obie is now recovering after surgery at an Oregon veterinary clinic that removed 2 1/2 pounds of the loose skin, reports The Associated Press.
Nora Vanatta, Obie's owner, stated that he weighed 77 pounds at one point and was down to 37 before the surgery. He now weighs about 35 pounds.
Fans of the dog and the story have been tracking his progress via his Facebook page.
Obie was put on a diet after being rescued from his former owners and becoming the center of custody battle in 2012.
