If you are getting ready to roll up your sleeves to get a flu shot, you may want to see if you need a pneumococcal vaccine as well.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, some children and adults who smoke, or have certain risk factors like heart disease or diabetes, should get the vaccine.

We’re told pneumococcal disease can lead to lung, blood and brain infections. "Your doctor's office should have this vaccine for you. Your local pharmacy is perfectly able to administer these vaccines and screen you to see whether or not you are a candidate to get this vaccine," says Paul Lewis, an infectious disease pharmacist at Johnson City Medical Center.

We're told you can get the flu shot and the pneumococcal vaccine at the same time.
