The Damascus Police Chief has stepped down, according to Mayor Jack McCrady.
McCrady said Chief Bill Nunley turned in his resignation Tuesday along with another officer.
His official last day will be August 1st, but Nunley will not return to work.
McCrady said Nunley did not feel like town council or McCrady supported him and was unhappy when town finances did not allow Nunley to hire another full-time officer to replace an officer who left.
The town did have enough money to replace the full-time officer with a part-time officer.
McCrady said Chief Nunley did a great job and he will be missed.
The Interim chief will be Lieutentant Kermit Turner.
Washington County, Virginia Sheriff Fred Newman said deputies would help Damascus Police as needed.
News 5 WCYB has not been able to reach Nunley for comment.
