Republican Ken Cuccinelli is planning his first policy speech in Richmond as his Democratic rival in the governor's race tours Virginia through Thursday in what he's calling an official campaign launch.
A Richmond yogurt parlor is the venue for Cuccinelli's news conference outlining tax reform and job development proposals. He also seeks to shift attention from his links to a nutritional supplements maker who is under a federal securities investigation.
The Republican attorney general's event comes amid a statewide "official launch" of Democratic rival Terry McAuliffe's campaign, done six months after he declared his candidacy.
McAuliffe has events in Roanoke and Danville on Tuesday, Bristol on Wednesday and a wrap-up Thursday in Arlington.
A Sunday Washington Post poll showed Cuccinelli leading McAuliffe 46 percent to 41 percent.
