Crazy 8's is one of FunFest's most popular events and it takes a lot of preparation.
Fitness is a huge part of the Hamilton family's life. Willie Hamilton tells us he used to weigh 270 pounds, so he started working out to get healthy. "Fitness in general is just a good way to remain active. I've seen a recent report that Tennessee, Kingsport and Bristol rank tenth-worst in the nation for physical activity," he said.
So when the Crazy 8's race comes to Kingsport, they're ready to participate. "I've ran every year. This will be my son and wife's first year," he continues.
Race director Hank Brown tells News 5 thousands of others are also signing up. "Probably hit right at 4,000 in all the events combined," he said.
Because there are so many people who run, it takes a lot of preparing. "It's kind of an all year thing and we have a great group of people I can rely on every year," Brown said.
It's not just event organizers. There are plenty of businesses from the region helping out, like Snap Fitness -- they have a tent set up doing a healthy lifestyle expo.
"We've been planning this for about a month and a half. Marketing, fliers, brochures," Crystal Landers with Snap Fitness said.
Some are racing to beat a world record, others just to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Either way, runners and organizers are ready for the races.
