Coats given away to ETSU students in need
Some East Tennessee State University students will be a lot warmer this winter thanks to a new program at the university.
Bucky's Food Pantry and the student counseling center teamed up with a local rotary club and collected more than 300 coats last month.
The group spent this week giving them all away.
Helen Jones with Bucky's Food Pantry said, "A lot of our foreign students who are from warmer countries are not experienced with winter have been very thankful and couldn't understand why they are getting these for free. It was just something we wanted to do and we know a lot of students are really financially strapped."
Jones told News 5 WCYB they plan on continuing the program next year.
