Church Groups Walk With Crosses

For Christians, Good Friday is to remember the day Jesus died on the cross.

Some members of our community are taking up a cross themselves as a reminder of that sacrifice. We caught up with a group walking down Bloomingdale Road bearing their own cross. Their journey was just over a mile long, from Holly Springs Methodist to Salem United Methodist.

Organizers say even after Christ's suffering and death, they have a reason to celebrate. Pastor Will Shewey of Salem UMC helped organize the event. "For us, to carry the cross today is a joyful event," he said. "Because he suffered, we can have life and have joy."

The group continued their celebration with a lunch.

Tis is the third year the churches have invited their congregations, and the entire community, to participate.
