Church celebrates 230 years
Special luncheon and service held
An Abingdon church celebrated a big birthday this year -- 230 years.
They decorated the church and held a large lunch.
On Sunday afternoon, old church members came back to visit for a special service with music and speakers. Members of the church told us every seat was filled, including in the balcony.
The Abingdon United Methodist Church was founded in 1783. It was the first church in the Holston Conference, back in 1826, to have a full-time pastor.
The church has met in four different buildings over the years, including one on Valley St., two on Court St., and then their current location on East Main St.
They've been at their current location since 1883.
