Update: 3-year-old boy dies in Kingsport house fire
First fatal fire in Kingsport in over six years
UPDATE 9:10 a.m.: The Kingsport Fire Department has released more information about the victims.
Fire officials say three-year-old Henley Dunbar died in the fire and his mother, Nikki Dunbar is still a patient at Holston Valley Medical Center.
Kingsport firefighters think the mother and child were trying to escape from the burning house on Rose Tree Lane this morning, but couldn't get out in time.
Firefighters tell us they found the woman and her toddler together by the back door. The mother was rushed to Holston Valley Medical Center, but her child did not survive.
Investigators say they weren't able to locate a working smoke detector in the house, and the only one they did find, didn't work.
The fire department is still working to determine what sparked the flames.
Kingsport fire officials are on the scene of a fatal house fire.
Fire officials tell us that a child died in the blaze on Rose Tree Lane. We have also been told that another person has been transported to the hospital.
Public education officer Barry Brickey tells us this is the first fire fatality in the city in six and a half years.
