CARTER COUNTY, Tenn. -

Construction of a new middle school in Carter County is leading to a tax increase.

County commissioners voted Monday morning to raise property taxes 12 cents. The tax hike will generate more than 800,000 to pay for part of the construction of the new Unaka Middle School.

The money will cover the architectural fees for the project that consolidates the middle schools grades from several other schools.

The rate will jump $2.33 to $2.45 per 100 dollars of assessed value.
