ERWIN, Tenn. -

Getting around downtown Erwin is proving to be a bit of a challenge -- road crews are hard at work, but businesses are still open.

Crews are repaving the streets, sidewalks, and putting utilities underground in an effort to revitalize downtown Erwin.

Work started in mid-May 2013 but town mayor Doris Hensley says while roads are blocked, shops are still open. "We do have easily accessible lanes coming into our downtown. All of our businesses are open, they are easily accessible. We will have detour signs directing the public to the towns or businesses they want to go to," said Hensley.

She adds improvements should help prevent downtown flooding.

Work is expected to wrap up on October 1, 2013.
