BRISTOL, Va. -

Help is on the way for one Bristol, Virginia school that was added to the state's list of schools that need improvement on standards of learning test scores.

Washington-Lee Elementary School received a grant for more than $170,000. The money will serve 150 students and will provide quality after-school, before-school, and summer school programs focused on reading and math. It will also focus on increased academic performance and social development.

Bristol, Virginia Superintendent Mark Lineburg says this grant is much-needed. "This three years of help for after-school programs five days a week every afternoon is what we need at the right time," adds Lineburg.

The grant will provide money for the programs for three years. Lineburg says the programs will start at Washington-Lee Elementary School by October 16.
