BRISTOL, Va. -

Bristol, Virginia Police are investigating a Sunday morning crash  in which a pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle on Island Road near Harmony Drive.

The pedestrian, 66-year-old David Ausmus of Bristol, Virginia, was walking west on Island Road around 7 a.m.  Police say he was walking on the left side of the roadway, facing oncoming traffic, when he was struck from behind by a 1997 Ford pickup truck being driven by 74-year-old Jeremiah Graham Allison, who is also from Bristol, Virginia.

A preliminary investigation indicated the truck crossed over the center of the roadway before striking Ausmus. The victim was found by police and rescue personnel in the front yard of 1225 Island Rd.

The investigation is ongoing and charges may be forthcoming after completion of the investigation.
