JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - In February, a portion of the historic West Lawn Cemetery in Johnson City was vandalized. Twenty-four headstones were damaged.
The cemetery has been in the restoration process for several years, and now, a local board is raising money to construct a fence around the area.
“I found out about it the day after it happened,” Volunteer Gordon Edwards said. “Several people rallied to put the markers back up and a couple of them were broken and those were repaired and everything was done successfully.”
The board is hoping the fence will help to restore and protect the cemetery.
Donations for the fence construction can be directed to the Langston Heritage Group.
