Arch Coal lays off 110 workers
A coal mining company announces more than 100 workers will soon be out of a job.
Arch Coal, Incorporated says operations at two coal mining complexes in Kentucky and Virginia will soon see downsizing.
The Missouri-based company says the cutbacks will affect the Cumberland River and Hazard Mining complexes.
The Cumberland River Mining Complex is in Letcher County, Kentucky, and Wise County, Virginia.
The Hazard Mining Complex is in Perry County, Kentucky.
65 of the cut positions are company positions and the rest are contractor jobs not controlled by Arch.
A company spokesperson says the 110 workers who are laid off will be offered severance packages.
The company cites "ongoing coal market challenges" as the reason behind the decision.
