The Appalachian Cultural Music Association unveiled a new exhibit to honor a music legend Monday afternoon.
The Papa Joe Smiddy Exhibit is now part of the Mountain Music Museum.
93-year-old Papa Joe Smiddy is known for his contributions to Appalachian music, both on the stage and in the classroom. Smiddy, a former educator, is an avid clawhammer banjo picker.
News 5 asked him what he wants people to remember about him when they see the exhibit. "I'd like for them to remember how much I've loved the people of the mountains and how thankful I am to the good Lord for being born and raised in the music," Smiddy said.
Smiddy has played and sang with the likes of Ricky Skaggs and Jeanette Carter.
