Virginia State Police continue to investigate an accident involving an ambulance.

Spokesperson Corinne Geller said a Nicklesville Volunteer Rescue Squad ambulance was traveling south on a slippery section of Route 71 when it left the right side of the road.

The ambulance hit a rock ledge and overturned on its side. The ambulance was not on an emergency transport, but did have an adult female patient onboard.

It was headed for Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, Tennessee.

The driver of the ambulance, a medic, and the patient were all transported to Holston Valley Medical Center. The three women are being treated for non-life threatening injuries.
