All requirements have now been met in the sale of a local hospital to Mountain States Health Alliance.
You may remember in June of 2013, Tennessee's Attorney General delayed the sale of Unicoi County Memorial Hospital. He requested the sale must meet three requirements.
First, he wanted assurances the money would be used for health-care purposes only.
Second, they wanted the board to hold more public meetings to discuss the proposal.
Finally, he wanted approval from city and county officials. Erwin city officials approved the takeover in July.
On Monday night, the Unicoi County commission unanimously voted to approve the sale. Mountain Health Alliance Communications Director Teresas Hicks tells us the hospital's board of control will now send the request back to the attorney general for final approval.
