Airport closing for two weekends to make repairs
The Tri-Cities Regional Airport is shutting down for two weekends due to construction.
Beginning Friday, September 13 at 8:00 pm the airport will be closed to all planes while crews work to do runway construction.
We're told about 200 people will be working 24-hours a day to get the project done.
The airport will be closed for two weekends in a row. That means no flights will be allowed in or out of the airport.
Here’s the statement from the Tri-Cities Regional Airport:
"Tri-Cities Regional Airport is in the process of repaving Runway 5-23, which is the main runway. This project will require the entire airfield be closed from Friday, September 13, 2013 at 8 p.m. through Monday, September 16, 2013 at 9 a.m. and again from Friday, September 20, 2013 at 8 p.m. through Monday, September 23, 2013 at 9 a.m. During these closure periods, there will be no commercial or general aviation aircraft operating on the airfield."
