Active shooter drill held at health department
The Sullivan County Sheriff's Office teamed up with the health department Thursday morning for a drill.
The two practiced what to do should an active shooter enter that building. None of the officers responding were given specifics of the scenario.
Sullivan County Sheriff's Office public information officer Leslie Earhart says drills like this will make them operate more efficiently in case of a real emergency. "I think it's important that we do continue to practice those drills, because in reality in a situation like this, you're not going to remember what your instructor said in a classroom, you're going to resort back to your training. So the more we train for a situation, the more prepared we'll be," she said.
Earhart says in spite of recent events, this is routine training for the sheriff's department.
