Abingdon launches transportation alternative
If high gas prices are squeezing your wallet, a local town has an alternative method to get you where you need to go.
The Town of Abingdon has launched a new local transit system. It's called Abingdon Local Transit and Abingdon officials say it's just one way the town is striving to become a more sustainable community.
The ALT is hoping to take more single-use vehicles off the road to lower air pollution.
The system is free and can be used on Saturdays from 10 am to 8pm.
Listed below are the stop locations:
West Route: Heartwood, Exit 14 Hotels, Muster Grounds, Depot Square, Market Pavilion (Terminus), Visitors Center, Veterans Memorial Park, Shopping District and William King Museum.
East Route: Town Hall/Barter Theatre, Holston Mountain Artisans, Zazzy'z, Exit 19 Hotels, Cinemall, Courthouse Hill and Washington County Public Library.
If you would like more information on the Abingdon Local Transit, call the Abingdon Convention and Visitors Bureau between the hours of 9am -5pm.
