A power plant in Southwest Virginia has received an award.
Dominion Virginia Power's Virginia City Hybrid Center was recognized as the best coal-fired project of the year at the annual Power-Gen international conference in Orlando.
The wise county plant went into commercial operation back in July.
It uses waste coal, biomass and limestone to operate, which is considered environmentally friendly.
Company leaders say the demand for electricity is going up and this plant helps fill a gap and improves the reliability for customers.
In Virginia, Dominion mainly serves people in the eastern part of the state.
