DICKENSON COUNTY, Va. -

A forest fire is burning hundreds of acres in southwest Virginia.

So far, about 320 acres have burned and at last check Monday night, the forest service said that fire was only 20-percent contained.

The fire is on Pine Mountain, just outside of Haysi, in Dickenson County. It extends to the Virginia-Kentucky border.

Monday, 110 firefighters were working to contain the fire. A helicopter also dropped buckets of water on several areas where that fire crosses into Kentucky.

Rangers say they hope to have it fully contained by Thursday. The cause of that fire is under investigation.

Meanwhile, the Virginia Department of Forestry decided to extend the fire season through December 10th.
