A local food bank is looking for the community’s help so they can win money for the backpack program.
The Second Harvest Food Bank of Northeast Tennessee’s backpack program started back up in September and serves about 4,125 students in 135 schools this year.
They hope to win a $50,000 prize through Walmart’s Golden Spark program, part of their “Fighting Hunger Together” campaign, so they can provide more children with food outside of school. "It supplements what they're already getting. A lot of times, unfortunately, it may be the majority of what they're getting on weekends,” said Kathy Smith, the Director of Community Relations.
Residents can enter their community food bank in the weekly drawing online here at their Facebook page.
