Virginia voters may soon be required to show photo identification at the polls, if a Virginia delegate's bill is passed.
Delegate Rob Bell, of Albemarle County, announced the introduction of the "Photo ID- No Exceptions" bill today.
Here's how that bill would work:
Voters would have to present a valid government-issued photo ID to vote.
Proof of citizenship would be required in order to obtain an ID at the DMV.
Virginia would provide the needed documentation to eligible voters for free, if they can't afford it.
Current law allows voters to show non-photo documents at polls.
This bill is just a proposal at this point, it would have to pass the Virginia General Assembly to become law.
